Title | Our Story

Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.

Paula: We met at the pool of the hays medical center. I was lifeguarding and Noland was coaching the swim team. I remember telling the other lifeguard on duty I thought Noland was cute. A few months later he asked for my number on a Friday and that same Saturday we were on the dance floor of the country bar. That dance led to a kiss and well here we are.

Noland: Ditto

When did you know he / she was the one? Was there something he / she did?

Paula: I knew when I moved to Colorado and he still wanted this to work. I couldn’t stop looking forward to the next time we would see each other and then he asked to move out to Colorado with me. That was such a grand gesture to me.

Noland: I don’t have a definite time when this occured to me. I was the slower on in the relationship. after several years together the feeling simply built up until i was confident about how i felt.

What is the most memorable date you’ve ever had?
Paula: Our first date was for sushi and that is always a good place to start but most memorable? Maybe when we climbed two fourteeners in one day? Or when we went whitewater rafting? We’ve had a lot of great adventures.

Noland: Most memorable for me was a night out at the bars in Hays. I walked her home and we stopped to make kissy faces on a sculpture. It stuck in my mind because cop drove slowly by and we never knew if he saw us.

Tell us about the proposal (did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Nervous, excited, freaking out?)

Paula: I thought maybe something was up that weekend but when Noland took his mom home I figured it wasn’t the time. I thought he was just fixing his boot on the mountain. I was ready to ski. I was not ready for a ring.

Noland: I had been planning the proposal for several months. unfortunately i suck at making plans and it all went wrong from the start. I planned to propose Saturday evening when my mom and all our friends were around. Didn’t happen.

I forgot the rind at home and realized I had left it an hour into the drive up to Vail.  I actually swore and had to cover why i was mad randomly. The new plan turned into me picking up the ring after taking my mom to her car at my house, grabbing the ring, and headed back to Vail with it. I called Paula’s dad on the way back and got his permission to marry her. On Monday, we rode up to the top on the lift and at the top i adjusted my ski boots and proposed.

Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.

Paula: I love how Noland can comfort me in any moment. No matter how crazy or stressed I’m feeling. He’s this force that is so calming and stabilizing.

Noland: Paula has a lot of emotions and she expresses enough for both of us. I find that invaluable.

If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does.

Paula: Noland wears flip flops all the time. He’s a human radiator and even when it’s snowing in Breckenridge and we’re walking to the bar he is in flip flops.

Noland: I enjoy the ridiculous comic/picture texts that she sends me about adorable stuff.

Describe the theme or décor for your wedding.

Paula:  The theme is party. Does that count? The theme is simple and fun and a celebration.

Noland: Ditto squared
