Title | Our Story

Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.

Andrew and Meredith met on April 19, 2014, the night before Easter at the Sandbar in Lawrence, KS. Meredith was hesitant about going out despite her sister Mallory’s persistent begging. Finally Meredith gave in and after borrowing Mallory’s clothes, went out with her for a night on the town. Andrew’s friend Kelly Barah had also invited him out that night and their first stop was the Sandbar. Once inside the bar, Andrew and Meredith ran into each other next to the fish tank. Andrew was sitting on a table double fisting beers (Budweiser) and they began talking but not after Andrew declared “I don’t usually drink like this”. After spending some time in the Sandbar, both groups decided to move to another drinking establishment.  Andrew asked for Meredith’s number before they left as they were heading opposite directions on Mass Street. Andrew and his guy friends went to Louise’s while Meredith and her group of friends went to Quinton’s. Meredith had only been at the other bar for about 15 minutes before receiving a text from Andrew. From that day forward they have talked every single day and the rest is history!

PS – to this day we still argue about who was hitting on who first.

When did you know he / she was the one? Was there something he / she did?

One of the times Andrew knew Meredith was “the one” was during the “trip from hell.”  Two years ago Andrew and Meredith traveled from Dallas to Canada for his brother’s wedding.  However American Airlines had other plans in mind.  The two ended up having to drive during the middle of the night from Washington DC to Buffalo to make it in time for the wedding due to cancelled flights.  Andrew knew that if they could get through that terrible and stressful trip experience together they could get through pretty much anything.

Meredith knew Andrew was the one when he was looking to make a career change from broadcasting to insurance in Dallas, Texas. He knew he wanted her to go with him and it was one of the biggest adult decisions we have made together.

What is the most memorable date you’ve ever had?

Probably on our first vacation in Las Vegas. We went to dinner at the top of the Eiffel Tower overlooking the Bellagio fountains.

Tell us about the proposal (did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Nervous, excited, freaking out?)

Meredith’ 30th birthday was coming up and the weekend before, Andrew casually suggested they head home to celebrate with friends and family. Meredith didn’t think anything of it and gladly went along. On the Saturday before her birthday, they were supposed to go to the Boulevard Brewing Co for a beer and then a Japanese Steakhouse with their friends Ian and Stephanie. The morning of, after running stairs at Free State High School and walking through Allen Field House, Andrew and Meredith’s mom Bernie insisted that she wear a dress despite Meredith arguing that “it’s just Japanese”.  Finally she gave in. After having two beers, Andrew’s parents called him and as he told Meredith they needed to go help his parents carry some boxes for a retirement party they were throwing before dinner. After walking in, Meredith was shocked because all of their friends and family were there for a surprise 30th birthday party. Meredith totally hates surprises so Andrew really shocked her. Later, Andrew had put together a video for Meredith’s birthday including childhood photos and video messages from family and friends. At the end of the video, Andrew surprised Meredith once more by throwing in footage of a jewelry store and the most gorgeous ring ever.  Andrew got down on one knee in front of everyone and proposed. Meredith of course said YES!

Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.

Meredith loves Andrew’s sense of humor and constantly makes her laugh.

Andrew instantly fell in love with Meredith’s blue eyes.  He challenges you to find someone with as blue of eyes as hers.

If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does

Meredith is very OCD when it comes to candy.  If you give her a box of gummy bears she likes to dump out the bag and count out how many colors of each bear she has.  That way she can even an even number of colors throughout her eating experience.

When we go to the movies, Andrew will not allow you to eat a single piece of popcorn until the movie has started. He has even smacked Meredith’s hand when she reached for one piece. Meredith now turns it on him when he tries the same thing.

Describe the theme or décor for your wedding.

I wanted to go with simple but elegant. Blue is my favorite color which is why there is so much of that color.   You can call it “Cobalt Blue”
