Title | Our Story

Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.

It all started one fateful New Year’s Eve when Andy and Stephanie met through a mutual friend.  The two of them spent the evening drinking, dancing, singing, and drinking a little more.  The night ended with a kiss at midnight.  Following this, Andy and Stephanie would be separated for a long six months.  Andy went to do some field work in Nicaragua with his Physical Therapy program and then returned to his clinical at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California; while Stephanie returned to Monterrey, Mexico to finish her last year of teaching at the American School Foundation of Monterrey.

The months dragged on, but Andy and Stephanie kept in constant contact.  When they were finally back in the same city, their relationship was able to begin.

When did you know he / she was the one? Was there something he / she did?

Andy: I knew Stephanie was the one when I was on an airplane to a wedding in mid December. Sitting all alone and very tired, all I could think about was how much I loved her and wanted her with me on the plane and going to meet my friends. I knew that I didn’t ever want to be without her.

Stephanie: I knew Andy was the one on the first night when I had adopted my dog Bentley. I had been sleeping on the couch while Bentley slept in his kennel for the first time. Bentley had been crying all night unless I was sleeping by his Kennel. At one point Bentley had stopped crying and fell asleep so I went to bed in my bedroom. Not long after I had left he started crying again but this time Andy got up and said “It’s my turn” and he went out to sleep by Bentley.

What is the most memorable date you’ve ever had?

Our most memorable date was on Stephanie’s 26th birthday. It was her first birthday with us being together and I surprised her with pulled pork, sunflowers, her favorite beer, and a pair of diamond earrings. The real gift however was KU was playing Duke in basketball that evening and I didn’t turn on the game or check the score once the entire time.

Tell us about the proposal (did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Nervous, excited, freaking out?)

Fast forward to a little over a year later and they were on a Sachs Family vacation in Frisco, Colorado.  Andy and Stephanie went to the Bluegrass and Beer Festival in Keystone and it was here that Andy, with a 103 degree fever, popped the question on the “Family Bridge,” where the Sachs family always took pictures.  Stephanie may have thought that Andy was kidding when he said, “This would be a really good time to propose,” but once she realized he wasn’t joking, she couldn’t hide her excitement and, through tears, she said “Yes!”

Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.

Stephanie: I love his sense of humor, and how I show affection to people, hugging and hand holding. I love his confidence and self assuredness even when he doesn’t feel that way about himself he always gives off that feeling to others

Andy: I love how unafraid she is. Whether it is moving to Mexico or making the first move after we met she is a bold and strong woman. I love that she stands up for what she believes in and that she will let you know exactly where you stand with her. Most of all I love that no matter what we are doing I am always happy to be with her. I love being with her on the couch in our home or traveling together.

If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does

Andy makes silly noises right before we are about to kiss to make me laugh

Stephanie takes cooking eggs VERY seriously and if she messes up it will LITERALLY ruin her day.

Describe the theme or décor for your wedding.

The theme of out wedding is Kansas City. We both have a lot of pride in our home town and want our friends to see how fun and beautiful our home is.
