Title | Our Story

Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.

We met at KU our freshman year of college in 2008. We were attending a joint friend’s beer pong party in McCollum  Hall & Nicholas asked Elizabeth to be his beer pong partner & the rest was history.

When did you know he / she was the one? Was there something he / she did?

Elizabeth: I knew he was the one when I saw how well he fit into my family.

Nic: Immediately

What is the most memorable date you’ve ever had?

Elizabeth: For our 6 year anniversary he took me to see the Miami Heat play at Sprint Center in Kansas City. Turned out we were staying in the same hotel as the team! We met Chris Bosh on our way to the game.

Tell us about the proposal (did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Nervous, excited, freaking out?)

Elizabeth: Unexpected and perfect. It was our 1st day up on the mountains and our 1st snowboarding trip with Chad & Tara. I was told after the fact that Nic was a nervous wreck, but I couldn’t tell. When we got to the top of the mountain for our 1st run of the day, we went to take some photos with the breathtaking view and that is when he got down on one knee. I was so overwhelmed with emotion and surprised that this was really happening. I am so happy my future brother & sister in-law were there and able to capture it all on film. It also meant a lot to me that he did it in Colorado so I was able to celebrate with my mom.

Nic: It was a roller coaster of emotions. Starting with me being overly protective of my carry-on bag, which had the ring in it. I remember being so nervous the night before I couldn’t even sleep as I rehearsed all the nice things I wanted to say, but quickly went out the window when I got down on one knee and was overtaken by emotion. I remember the excitement going up the mountain with the ring in my pocket and her having no idea. Then I looked over at her and realized, “damn she has gloves on, how do I slyly get her to take them off without giving it away.” I was so terrified the whole time that she wouldn’t be surprised or that I would drop the ring in the snow. Finally, relief when I saw her speechless and teary-eyed and I knew I nailed it.

Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.

Nic: A myriad of things and that’s why I love her. We first fell in love when we realized how compatible our beer pong skills were and we still dominate to this day. Snowboarding is something that she knows I love and I can’t help but admire her tenacity in learning and her toughness to get back up when she falls, and she falls pretty hard… Some of my favorite nights are when there is nothing to do so we play Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, or Call of Duty all night, and she is usually better at all of them than me. Lastly, nightly walks with our dogs. We love to submerse ourselves in nature and talk about everything ranging from all my crazy theories and business model ideas to her passion for politics and animals.
